The installation guideline changes

NEN-EN-IEC 60079-14:2014 is the new installation guideline for electrical material in hazardous areas. This guideline is important for you as end user, installer, designer or inspector.

One of the biggest changes concerns the chapter on cable entry systems. The selection chart, to select the appropriate Ex-d cable gland, has expired. The installer has to take into account, when selecting Ex-d cable glands, the characteristics of the cable.

First choice in the standard, for direct entries in Ex-d applications, is the ‘compound’ gland (also called “barrier gland” or cable gland with filling compound).

If you have already used the regular “compound’ cable gland, you will have realised that this is a time consuming task. Therefor CMP Products has an excellent solution: The Rapid-Ex cable gland.

Rapid-Ex, cable gland with liquid filling compound

The Rapid-Ex cable gland is a cable gland with a liquid filling compound. That is why the setting time of the compound is significantly shorter compared to the conventional compound cable gland, so the installation time is shorter.

Of course there are numerous other glands available besides the Rapid-Ex cable gland for hazardous areas in the protection type Exd, Exe, Exn etc.
